Recommendation: Where The Wild Things Are

Photobucket

Where The Wild Things Are, albeit a different movie then I was expecting it to be, was quite good. Rather than a film for children, its instead a movie about them. Its a fairly honest portrayal of what being a child is like. The confusion, curiosity, alienation, joy and other abundant emotions that children have are accurately depicted. Through Max's journey with the Wild Things, the viewer gets to see these childhood emotions manifested in these creatures, that have adult-like responsibility and independence but still have the insecurities and pitfalls of child. Based off the trailer, I thought the movie would have an ultimately happy center, which it didn't. Not to say this is a sad movie, but rather it just is. It exists with no explanation, and leaves it up for the viewer to extract what they want from it, which in the end, is the mark of good art.
